====== TSN - Time Sensitive Networking ====== TSN stands for time-sensitive networking. It is a set of different standards for transmitting data in Ethernet networks. These standards are currently being defined by the standardization organization for Ethernet-based communication IEEE 802.1. TSN also consists of a series of individual standards that mainly expand the data link layer (Layer 2 of the ISO-OSI model) of the communication system. TSN is thus not a complete communication protocol but rather a basic technology that can be used by higher-level applications. Higher protocols, such as PROFINET and OPC UA, are found on Layers 5 through 7 of the ISO-OSI model and remain unchanged. * Time Synchronization (IEEE 802.1AS) * IEEE 802.1AS Timing and Synchronization for Time-Sensitive Applications * TSN based scheduling and traffic shaping (IEEE 802.1Qbv, Qbu, Qcr) * IEEE 802.1Qbv Enhancements to Traffic Scheduling: Time-Aware Shaper (TAS) * IEEE 802.1Qbv in more detail: Time slices and guard bands * IEEE 802.3br and 802.1Qbu Interspersing Express Traffic (IET) and Frame Preemption * Shortcomings of IEEE 802.1Qbv/bu * IEEE 802.1Qcr Asynchronous Traffic Shaping * AVB credit-based scheduler (IEEE 802.1 Qav, Qat) * IEEE 802.1Qav Forwarding and Queuing Enhancements for Time-Sensitive Streams * IEEE 802.1Qat Stream Reservation Protocol * Enhancements to AVB scheduling (IEEE 802.1 Qcc, Qch, Qci) * IEEE 802.1Qcc Enhancements to SRP * IEEE 802.1Qch Cyclic Queuing and Forwarding (CQF) * IEEE 802.1Qci Per-Stream Filtering and Policing (PSFP) ===== Related ===== * Is OPC UA PubSub over TSN ready to adopt? — the staged evaluation we use to answer that * S2OPC PubSub over TSN — a worked setup * DDS over TSN in automotive * Industrial Ethernet
